Karma Yoga Explained
Helping At Gaia
In community, we all do a little bit to help! It’s not a lot, but enough to keep the place clean, meals cooked, and dishes washed. It is only 12 hours per week. It ends up being less than you would do if you were doing all the chores around the house and cooking by yourself.
Karma yoga (being of service) work is easy, nothing strenuous, and fun to do as laughter and good company with others is always involved!
Working together brings the community together. It is a team effort between all of us. Many hands make short work!
What Kind Of Work?
As you can probably imagine, a lot of the work will be around the kitchen, with food prep, cooking and dish washing. That’s going to be the main focus of the work.
There is also basic cleaning, sweeping, and laundry. If there are retreats, you might be able to help set things up for the events and such.
Another category of work is gardening, weeding and cutting off the dead flowers. If the world situation requires it, we will be doing a lot of our own food growing so there would be a LOT Of gardening then!
Everyone cleans their own rooms and fixes their own beds, so there isn’t much to do with housekeeping.
Can I Skip Karma Yoga?
Yes, you can opt out of Karma Yoga if you want to pay $400 more per month. We have to pay workers that much for what we would lose with your assistance, so we need to have the resources to pay them.
We suggest you don’t opt for that, it’s not that much work and it’s fun! It doesn’t feel like work. But if you really want to opt our of the karma yoga, that’s what it would cost.
We are ok with it if you pay the balance that we would have to pay to hire, insure, and pay social security, medical and all their taxes we would have to pay on them.
