Getting To Gaia Sagrada
Some travel tips and directions
Passport & Documents
You MUST have at least 6 months left on your passport in order to board the plane or you will be turned away at the airport.
It is required to have a negative PCR test to enter Ecuador 3 days before entry. At this moment the antigen test is no longer accepted to enter Ecuador. It must be the PCR test.
You get 90 days on your passport when coming from most countries, but check with the Ecuadorian consulate in your country if you may need a visa to enter Ecuador.
If you would like to stay longer than 90 days, please see our Visas & Residency page for info.
Exit Ticket Required
Gaia Sagrada does not handle airline reservations, but we advise you search for your flights on Priceline, Skyscanner or Kayak. You can book there directly. If you need more help, we recommend finding a travel agent in your city.
Your international flight will fly to Quito or Guayaquil. Then you must book another flight to Cuenca. Our drivers pick everyone up at the Cuenca airport.
It is required that you have a round trip or exit ticket out of the country to board your flight. You can get a refundable or changeable round trip ticket so you don’t lose your money if you are not sure when you are going to leave Ecuador.
Overnight Stays On Journey
If you need to overnight in either Guayaquil or Quito where your international flight lands before you come to Cuenca, there is a great site called sleepinginairports.net where you can check on how that airport works for sleeping overnight. If you are overnighting in Quito, there is a good overnight stay at the airport at layoverstayquito.com
There are several hotels around all the airports, so we suggest looking on the regular hotel booking sites for a hotel if you should need one, like Tripadvisor.com or Booking.com
Travel Safety Tips
- Tie bags together with a string at airports or hotels if waiting for a while with your luggage
- Don’t carry a computer bag, it is a target
- Watch for the distraction trick (a person creates a sudden a mishap like suddenly dropping food on you, even trying to assist you, and bags disappear)
- Do not let other people handle your bags
- Hail only yellow taxis with official tags, numbers and permits.
- Make a reduced, color, laminated copy of your passport with your signature page in your passport to carry around with you in your wallet. Leave your real passport in your room. Also make a color copy of your passport on paper.
